A guided tour of the Strategy Builder

You have an idea: "home underdogs in the top leagues are underpriced." Right now it lives in your head. The Strategy Builder is where it becomes a precise set of rules you can test against history and, if it holds up, let run on live matchups. Here is the whole flow.

1. Pick a sport and a market

Every strategy starts by fixing one sport and one market (moneyline, totals, handicap and so on). This choice cannot change later, because the historical data behind a backtest is market-specific.

2. Add filters

Filters are the heart of a strategy. Each one narrows the set of qualifying matchups:

• Odds range: only bets priced between, say, 1.80 and 2.40.
• League: restrict to the competitions you trust.
• Form & streaks: the team's recent results.
• Market liquidity & vig: how efficient the market is for that game.

Filters combine in a tree. An AND node requires every child to match; an OR node needs just one. That is how you express "top-5 league AND (home underdog OR away favourite)".

3. Backtest

Hit backtest and the engine replays every historical matchup through your tree, placing a simulated bet whenever the rules match. You get profit/loss, yield, number of bets and a P&L curve. This is the moment of truth. A strategy that looks clever but loses over 5,000 historical bets is not an edge, however good the story behind it.

4. Read the numbers honestly

A handful of bets with a huge yield usually means nothing: the sample is too small. What you want is a positive yield over a large number of bets and a P&L curve that climbs steadily instead of riding one lucky spike.

5. Save and go live

Happy with it? Save the strategy and enable notifications. From then on, live matchups that match your rules generate picks in real time.
