What you can backtest in volleyball

Volleyball is a 2-way sport scored in sets, best-of-5 across the whole dataset. On five years of Pinnacle closing odds you can test:

Filters that shine for volleyball

Home advantage is real in volleyball, with home teams winning about 55 per cent of matches, so side-based filters keep their edge here:

• League result rates and favorite side
• Team form, streaks and head-to-head history
• League standing, standing gap and season phase
• Odds range and implied probability on set handicaps and the 3.5 total

Volleyball in numbers

Across more than 46,000 settled matches in the dataset: 46 per cent end 3-0, 33 per cent 3-1 and 22 per cent go to a tie-break. Favourites priced 1.25 or shorter win 89 per cent of the time and cover the -1.5 set handicap in 80 per cent of matches; between 1.60 and 1.90 they win barely 55 per cent and the match reaches five sets 30 per cent of the time. Home teams win 55 per cent overall, but the rate ranges from 53 per cent in the Turkish women's league to 62 per cent in Italy's Serie A2, which is why league-level filters matter so much here.
